Fun Fact:

White mushrooms

White button mushrooms are the most popular mushrooms in the UAE and around the world, and they are loved for their versatility in a variety of dishes.

Typically about the size of 4.5-6.5 cm, these mushrooms feature a smooth white cap, with gills that can be either open or closed. Their creamy white colour complements dishes like pasta and risotto, keeping them light and visually appealing. White cup mushrooms can be roasted, sautéed, diced, or blended with minced meat for dishes like spaghetti or tacos. They’re also great eaten raw in salads!

White button mushrooms are packed with nutrients, including vitamin D, antioxidants, potassium, selenium, amino acids, riboflavin, phosphorus, zinc, folate, and manganese. Their mild flavour and firm texture make them a great addition to sautés, salads, pizzas, pasta, stir-fries, and more.

Preparation Tips:
No peeling is required! Just wipe them with a damp cloth or brush if needed.
Cooking Ideas:
Roast whole for a hearty side.
Stuff with your favourite fillings and bake.
Slice, dice, or chop as needed.
Finely chop and blend with minced meat for a flavour boost.
Fun Fact:
Swiss Brown mushrooms and portobellos come from the same variety. When left to grow a few extra days, a Swiss Brown matures into a large portobello.

Brown mushrooms

Brown button mushrooms typically range from 4.5 to 6.5 cm in size and are well known for their dense texture and rich umami flavour. Their deep brown colour and earthy aroma add a rustic element to any dish. With a lower water content than white mushrooms, they maintain a firm texture that holds up well in various cooking methods. These mushrooms are ideal for stir-fries, pasta, risotto, and skewers on the grill.

Preparation Tips:
No peeling is required. Simply wipe them clean with a damp cloth or a mushroom brush.
Cooking Ideas:
Slice and sauté for pasta, risotto, or stir-fries.
Roast whole for a hearty side dish.
Skewer and grill for a barbecue-friendly option.
Blend with minced meat for juicy burgers and meatballs.
Fun Fact:

Sliced white mushrooms

Sliced white button mushrooms are simply champignons that have been conveniently pre-sliced by our team for your convenience. Like whole white button mushrooms, they’re rich in vitamin D, antioxidants, potassium, selenium, amino acids, riboflavin, phosphorus, zinc, folate, and manganese. Their versatility makes them ideal for sautés, salads, pizzas, pasta, stir-fries, and more.

Preparation Tips:
No peeling is required! Just wipe them with a damp cloth or brush if needed.
Cooking Ideas:
Sauté and add to omelettes or frittatas.
Top pizzas or flatbreads
Incorporate into casseroles or pasta dishes.
Fun Fact:
These tiny mushrooms are the first to be harvested from the mushroom bed. Left a bit longer, they grow into white button mushrooms, and eventually into large flat mushrooms or white portobello!

White baby mushrooms

These small, round mushrooms are considered premium as they are harvested before reaching full maturity. True to their name, baby button mushrooms are about the size of a coin, with a tightly closed cap. As they’re harvested young, they’re very firm, holding their shape well throughout cooking. They are great to be cooked whole without being chopped.

Preparation Tips:
No peeling is required! Just wipe them with a damp cloth or brush if needed.
Cooking Ideas:
Add whole to stews or slow-cooked dishes.
Marinate and use whole in salads.
Perfect for skewers on the barbecue.
Coat in breadcrumbs and deep fry for a tasty snack.
Fun Fact:

Mixed mushrooms

The Eco Fresh Mixed Mushroom Pack combines white button mushrooms and chestnut button mushrooms, offering a perfect blend of colour, texture, and nutrition. This mix is ideal for adding variety and depth of flavour to a wide range of dishes.

Preparation Tips:
Cooking Ideas:
Sauté with garlic and herbs for a simple, flavourful side.
Toss into risottos, soups, and pasta dishes for added texture.
Use in stir-fries, stews, or casseroles for a rich umami taste.
Fun Fact:
Portobellini mushrooms are slightly more mature brown button mushrooms. When left to grow longer, they develop into the hearty, robust portobellos.

Portobellini mushrooms

Portobellini mushrooms are medium-sized, measuring 6 to 7 cm in diameter, with slightly open gills and a sturdy stem. They are larger than chestnut button mushrooms but smaller than full-grown portobellos, offering a bold, earthy flavour and a firm texture. Rich in fibre, niacin, copper, selenium, and phosphorus, they are a nutrient powerhouse and highly versatile in the kitchen.

Preparation Tips:
No peeling is required. Simply wipe clean with a damp cloth or a mushroom brush.
Cooking Ideas:
Roast whole or stuff and bake with cheese, herbs, or breadcrumbs.
Slice and sauté for soups, stews, and pasta dishes.
Grill and serve in fajitas or wraps.
Blend into creamy sauces or risottos for a rich depth of flavour.
Fun Fact:
Flat mushrooms are button mushrooms that have been allowed to grow for several days longer.

White portobello mushrooms

Flat mushrooms are the largest in the white mushroom family, sometimes growing over 10 cm in diameter. As they mature, their gills become fully exposed, giving them a softer texture and a richer umami flavour. These mushrooms are ideal for dishes that require a deep, bold taste and work especially well in sauces, bakes, and roasts.

Preparation Tips:
No peeling is required. Simply wipe clean with a damp cloth or a mushroom brush.
Cooking Ideas:
Grill whole with olive oil and herbs.
Stuff with cheese, spinach, or seasoned breadcrumbs and bake.
Coat in breadcrumbs and shallow-fry for a crispy appetiser.
Blend into creamy soups or sauces for a rich depth of flavour.
Fun Fact:
Portobello mushrooms are fully matured brown button mushrooms. The longer they grow, the larger and more flavourful they become.

Portobello mushrooms

Portobello mushrooms are the largest in the brown mushroom family, prized for their dense, meaty texture and intensely rich umami flavour. Their lower water content allows them to hold their shape well during cooking, making them a perfect plant-based alternative to meat.

Preparation Tips:
No peeling is required. Simply wipe clean with a damp cloth or a mushroom brush.
Cooking Ideas:
Grill whole as a vegetarian steak alternative.
Stuff with cheese, herbs, or breadcrumbs and bake until tender.
Slice into thick strips for stir-fries, wraps, and burgers.
Roast and blend into flavourful sauces or mushroom pâté.
Fun Fact:

Mixed portobello mushrooms

These small, round mushrooms are considered premium as they are harvested before reaching full maturity. True to their name, baby button mushrooms are about the size of a coin, with a tightly closed cap. As they’re harvested young, they’re very firm, holding their shape well throughout cooking. They are great to be cooked whole without being chopped.
